As you’ve now seen, things aren’t all THAT different here in PG.  Certain items–namely toiletries and electronics–can be significantly more expensive here, but others–bulk foods and  tropical fruits–cost less.  One thing that’s almost always cheaper here is a Belizean dinner entree, which typically sets you back only about $2.50-6 US.  Not too shabby!  Later gators!

  1. So it’s Belize this summer, huh Sarah?! Well, I am on my way to Lima and Cusco with a new group of super Iowa students and hope you have a perfectly peachy time in Punta Gorda (though the mangos are much better than peaches in PG) :o)
Take care and greetings to Nicole and Lee. I regret that I have yet to meet Noemi, but our group from Iowa State loved her. All the best!

    • Nancy! So glad that you found my blog! I sure miss you! Belize is pretty majorly different from Peru, but equally interesting! I’m learning lots, but missing picarones and lomo saltado and pisco sour and the Ocorurro and Pinankay and Lalitoo! 🙂 I hope that this year’s group of girls is as delightful as last year’s! Noemi is a GEM. I have no question that your Iowa students were in the best hands here with her. We have a volunteer onsite right now who is an alumna of Iowa State. She’s currently in a master’s degree program at PITT, but she recognized your name when I mentioned it. Her name is Ashley Loman. Ring any bells? Safe, beautiful travels! Give Peru my love!
